Your FAQs

All of your questions answered here.

  • Why should I use Scarper Tours?

Since 2003, we have been running the original Stonehenge tour from Bath - the only direct tour which makes this the perfect option for those on a day trip with limited time or for those staying in Bath for a few days who want a short escape from the city.
Because our tours have always focused on Stonehenge, you can be confident that your trip will run smoothly throughout, with the right amount of time and information to make for a perfect Stonehenge experience.

Scarper Tours are proudly independent and do not advertise on high commission based websites, which means we can always offer you the very best prices.

  • Why is it better to travel from Bath?

Bath is the perfect gateway for a visit to Stonehenge and a wonderful city to spend some time. Unlike London, this beautiful Georgian city offers a quick and easy escape into lovely countryside, with no motorways and very little traffic. We travel in small vehicles on the best routes to ensure this short journey is as memorable as the destination.
Along the way, the tour guide will provide some interesting commentary and point out the significant sights. From panoramic views of the Salisbury Plains and the Avon Valley to Celtic Hill Forts and Thatched Villages, there’s much to see along the way. On a clear day, you may even spot the famous Westbury White Horse – one of the Chalk Hill Carvings of Ancient Wessex.

  • Do I need to book this tour in advance?

Yes. Our Stonehenge Tour from Bath is very popular so we strongly recommend that you make a reservation in advance to avoid disappointment.
The easiest way is through our on-line booking system. Simply follow the BOOK TOUR instructions. Payment is safe and secure and can be made using a credit or debit card.

  • Which ticket option should I choose?

Most people will require the 'Tour and Stonehenge Entrance' option, which will provide return transport and a Stonehenge entry ticket (at a discounted price).
The 'Tour Only' option is only for members of English Heritage or National Trust England who can enter free, or for those with pre-paid Stonehenge entry tickets.
A student is anyone who can show a valid Student ID card on the day of travel. This does not need to be a UK student card, but can be from any country.
A Senior is anyone aged 65 years or over. No proof is necessary.

  • What does the entrance ticket include?

Scarper Tours has been given a daily allocation of tickets for our customers ensuring a speedy and hassle-free entrance to the site. The entrance ticket also includes admission into the Exhibition Museum and use of the shuttle ride that connects the Visitor Centre to the stones (about one mile), as well as a hand-held audio guide for use around the stones (available in 10 languages).

  • How close will I get to the stones?

The closest you will be to the stones is around 10 metres (30 feet) and the only barrier is a low-level rope. Although visitors are not permitted to walk among the stones, viewing is completely unobstructed. Even on busy days, it is very easy to get great photographs of Stonehenge without other visitors compromising your shots.

  • What are the tour timings?

The Stonehenge tour takes 4 hours in total from start to finish. We will be at Stonehenge for 2 hours which is plenty of time to explore the monument and to enjoy the Visitor Centre attractions. The journey time is normally just under one hour each way.
Please understand that we are subject to local traffic conditions and the punctuality of our customers, but we are generally back in Bath within 5-10 minutes of our scheduled time.

    9.30am tour - returns 1.30pm.
    2pm tour - returns 6pm.
    1pm tour - returns 5pm.

  • Is this tour suitable for everyone?

The tour is suitable for people of all ages and nationalities, whether travelling independently or with friends.
However, due to insurance regulations concerning child seats, our minimum age for this tour is 3 years.
Sightseeing at Stonehenge does require some walking, but is generally suitable for the elderly and less mobile.
Please note that our vehicles do not have wheelchair access and we are not permitted to carry dogs.
Commentary from the driver will be in English. Audio guides at Stonehenge are available in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Russian, Dutch, Polish, Japanese and Chinese. Please note: Audio guides are complimentary but subject to availability.

  • How many people will be on the tour?

Our buses seat a maximum of 18 people, so our tours have a small and personal feel. At Stonehenge, you have complete independence to enjoy your time at your own pace and leisure.

  • What are your buses like?

We use modern Mercedes mini-coaches that have been specifically modified for sightseeing travel. Large panoramic windows, air-conditioning and comfortable seats to ensure your journey is relaxing and enjoyable. And they’re purple of course… easy to spot in Bath and at Stonehenge!

  • Where and when do I meet the bus?

The tour departs from the bus stop on Terrace Walk, next to the Abbey Hotel and Huntsman Pub, in the very centre of Bath. This is very close to most city hotels and only a 5 minute walk from the train and bus stations. Please view the meeting point map above.
We are unable to collect from individual hotels but Bath is a small city and our pick up/drop off point is close to local bus stops and the main city taxi rank.
Please ensure that you arrive at the pick-up point 10 minutes before the departure time. We have an allocated arrival time at Stonehenge so it is very important for us to leave on time.

  • What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring your booking confirmation details and Student / Membership cards (if applicable) with you on the day. Booking confirmation can be printed if you wish or displayed on your mobile device.
English weather can be unpredictable so please come prepared. Stonehenge is normally a little cooler than the city, so an extra layer of clothing can be a good idea, especially in the winter.
    Don't forget your camera!

  • Can I bring my luggage with me?

Our buses do have a rear compartment for storage, but space is limited. We will always do our best to accommodate your luggage for the duration of the tour if needed.
However, if you have a few large cases it would be best if you could leave them at your hotel or at a luggage storage facility (there are some very close to the train station).

  • How do I cancel or change my booking?

If you need to cancel, change your tour time or make any other amendment, then please let us know by email at Cancellations notified 48 hours or more before departure will receive a full refund (minus a £5 administration fee). Cancellations notified less than 48 hours before departure are non-refundable.
If you wish to change the tour date or time, please notify us by email as soon as possible . Changes can be made at no extra charge but are subject to availability.

  • Do you offer private tours or group discounts?

We offer a 10% discount on groups of 11 people or more. This discount is automatically deducted from the total price on our payment system.
If you would like to organise a private group tour to Stonehenge please contact to check availability and pricing.
